For years Bobby Brown has been blamed by the public for causing Whitney Houston’s battle with drug addiction, but last night the person really responsible for introducing the singer to drugs came forward.
In his first televised interview since his sister’s passing almost a year ago, Michael Houston confessed to Oprah Winfrey that he played a major role in Whitney’s introduction to drugs. During his appearance on Oprah’s Next Chapter, Michael owned up to being the first person to do crack cocaine with his sister back in the 1980s.
Houston blamed their use of the drug on the free-wheeling Hollywood party scene that didn’t eschew such activities during that time.
"You gotta understand at the time…the '80s…it was acceptable," he explained as he sat next to his weeping mother, Cissy.
"It’s painful…I feel responsible for what I let go so far."
Michael admits he turned to drugs to help him cope with his sister’s death, but he has now been clean for the last three months.
Whitney Houston drowned to death in the bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel on February 11, 2012. The coroner’s report revealed that heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors to her passing.
