No fewer
than 91 graduating students of University of Lagos (UNILAG)who obtained
Bachelor Degrees in different courses have graduated with First Class Honours
from the institution.
The
golden jubilee convocation ceremony took place at the University’s
Multi-purpose hall yesterday. The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor
Rahamon Bello disclosed that a total of 91 graduating students finished with
first class honours.
He said
the university was determined to continue its tradition of producing quality
first class brains that can compete favourably with their counterparts in any
part of the world.
“I will
not fail to remind you that the vision of the university remains to be a top
class institution for the pursuit of excellence in knowledge through learning,
research and community service, and we have vigorously maintained that
tradition over the years,” he said.
The Pro
Chancellor of the institution who is also the chairman of UNILAG Governing
Council, Dr. Gamaliel Onosode said the members articulated a philosophical
thrust which included championing the attainment of the vision and mission of
the university and that this was in addition to implementing a comprehensive
programme of action to uplift the university in its quest to become a top class
institution.
Onosode
stressed that the institution has organised training for the staff, adding that
the staff and students have been put on the front burner to ensure that the
human resources development elements of the university keep growing.
In a
related development, Miss Ibok Favour of the Department of Accounting with a
CGPA of 4.89 emerged as overall best graduating student while Miss Gabtony
Flora of the department of Psychology with CGPA of 4.88 was second best
graduating student.
Other
awards and prizes were carted away by female students.
